How safe is it to use a midwife while giving birth

November 22nd, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

One of the most misunderstood professions is that of a midwife. It might not be as popular in this technology-dominated days but there are still people who practice it.If you are not knowledgeable about this profession they are the ones who assist expectant mothers. The practice is usually questioned by a lot of people about its safety because these midwives are usually not nurses or doctors.  Mostly because the midwife we are talking about are the ones who perform home births. In this article we are going to look at some things to determine if midwifery is safe to undergo or not.

Midiwives usually help mothers go through birthing without the use of drugs.  At least that is my experience running a San Diego midwife service. And the birthing are done usually at the house of the mother. That would be the reasons why most people are sceptical about its safety.  But really it is because most people think the only safe way to have a baby is with drugs and medicine.  But that is not true.

In fact, it can cause some complications and it will slow down the delivery of the baby.Midwives use no drugs that is why the delivery is faster and the recovery of the mother would also be faster.  That has been the case so many times in my homebirth midwife San Diego service.  So many women experience quicker recoveries going natural.

Finally what people don’t realize is that most natural home births are recommended only for healthy women.  In other words if the woman has a history of medical problems or birthing problems I won’t take them.  Generally the women I do assist in my certified midwives San Diego practice are women who have had no history of complications.  The moment I realize there is a danger to their delivery I recommend a hospital.

Hopefully, you would see that there are a lot of precautions before a mother will be allowed to undergo a natural birthing.  So when a homebirth is done it turns out wonderful for the family.

Home birthing safety issues

One way of giving birth to a baby is by hiring a midwife. Usually the midwife is a licensed professional although not a nurse or a doctor. They usually assist in the delivery of babies the natural way.  Many times the delivery is done at home. This would be the reason why a lot of people question its safety. We would be talking about the safety issues of this delivery method in this article.

First of all as a San Diego midwife this allows me to answer these questions with knowledge.Safety is the main concern of the people about this method.Well you might be surprised but midwives are also trained to handle emergencies during the delivery of the babies. And most of the things that can happen during a delivery midwives are ready to handle.

The next hing that people are most concerned about this method is the fact that this method is usually done at homes. What they are worrying about is that they assume that there is no sufficient tools for emergencies and there are no doctors.  But in general in my homebirth midwife San Diego service I only take women who are healthy.  In other words if there are concerns medically I will let them deliver in a hospital.Or if their previous deliveries had some issues then I would also suggest them to just go to the hospital.

A midwife does have the training and possess necesssary medical equipments for emergencies. But since the birth of method is naturally done then less complications would be experienced. That is the general experience of my certified midwives San Diego service. Most complications are caused by the drugs administered during the delivery. And these complications would be lessened if the delivery is done the natural way.

So hopefully you would see that this method of delivery is a safe way to go deliver a baby.So if you are planning to go natural you must learn more about it.You will be amazed at all the benefits it can give the baby and the mother. You will learn that this method can give more benefits than risks.

Midwifery in the 21st century

One way of having a baby is through a midwife.Although it is not a popular choice among mothers it is already gaining a following. The reason why it is not as popular is maybe because a lot of people think it is not safe. What I meant was that not a lot of technological advances are being used in this method. And it is because of this lack of technology use that people think it is not a safe method to deliver a baby.  In this article we are going to show how a midwife has advanced in technology as well.

Well as a San Diego midwife I know first hand that midwives are starting to use more technology.Although natural way of delivering a baby should be the main goal of midwifery.  You still can use some modern technologies. An ultrasound is one technology that midwives also use.  So finding the sex of the baby can be done with a midwife.

Another advancement that is being done in my homebirth midwife San Diego service is that we do have emergency equipment at birth.Technology like things that can resuscitate. And many more emergency tools and equipments that may be needed at times.  These different advanced pieces of technology allow the homebirth to be more safe.

Another advance being done with my waterbirth in San Diego service is the waterbirth kits being used.Waterbirth is a method of giving birth to a baby by putting the mother in a tub of water. Well the kits allow for ease of delivery.  They also are in place to help the mother as well as the baby stay safe.

As you can realize midwifery has also advanced in its methods and it is safer. The thoughts of doing procedures as if in the stone age is not reality. This means that midwifery is a more safer practice now to deliver babies.  All of these advanced tools make having a baby at home as safe as having a baby in the hospital. So if you plan on undergoing a homebirth do not think that it is not safe.

What are the things that midwives do during a pregnancy

October 5th, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

One of the methods of delivering a baby is using a midwife. This is usually done at the homes of the mothers. And also, this method is usually done naturally.Natural in the sense that no drugs is used during the delivery of the baby.A lot of mothers are now choosing it because they can get a lot of benefits from it.Some benefits they can get are that no drugs are administered during the delivery and that the delivery is done in their homes. So we  shall look at the role of a midwife in delivery.

So let us define what a midwife is.A midwife is a person who assists pregnant mothers in the delivery of their babies.  Usually not a doctor.  But as a San Diego midwife there is many other things that I know a midwife does.Of course, they are not as medically qualified as doctors but there are lots of things that they can do that can help pregnant mothers.

Most of the time, their jobs concentrate on assisting in the delivery of the babies.  But they also advice and help during pregnancy. Plus they also advice and help post delivery.  So most women who are midwives San Diego have a huge job when it comes to pregnancy and delivery.  Many women rely on them heavily for care and advice.Although they are not as medically qualified like nurses or doctors, most pregnant women still trust their advice.

Of course the biggest job of the midwife is during delivery. This is more evident in a homebirth.Of course, midwives can help in the hospitals. But when the delivery is done at home their responsibility is much larger. As I mentioned earlier as a San Diego midwife although not usually a doctor or nurse they do have training medically. This training helps them for any emergencies.

So those are a few of the jobs of a midwife.  As you can see they have a lot of responsibility. But most midwives have done their jobs well.  They have successfully helped women for many years. And they will continue to do so as midwifery becomes more popular to mothers in the years to come.

Having babies through water birth method

September 15th, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

Waterbirthing is one way of giving birth to babies which can be one option for mothers but they don’t usually know. This is the delivery where an expectant mother is placed in a tub filled with water.  From there she delivers the baby. There are a lot of benefits that one can get from this method.More women are now considering this method even if it is not a commonly known and popular method of delivering babies. We are going to discuss the benefits of these method in this article.

The good thing about this method is that it has a lot of benefits in store for the baby and the mother. As a San Diego midwife I have seen it firsthand. For the mother, it soothes the labor pains. And it also relaxes the muscles. This will lead to having babies in a faster time and less hardship for the mother during the delivery.

Another benefit is the fact that because it soothes the muscles and eases the pain is no drugs.Waterbirthing lets mothers have their babies naturally most of the time. I have seen it a lot of times while having a waterbirth in San Diego.  Women who usually had to use drugs to ease the pain of delivery don’t have to.  The water and soothing aspect allows them to withstand the pain. This is good for the expectant mothers who do not like drugs to be administered to her during the delivery of her baby.  This is because they fear those drugs can harm the baby.

Now in regards to the benefits to the baby it is simple. For nine months, the baby has lived in an environmnet filled with water.By delivering babies through water birth reduces the shock that they experience when they are being delivered.  The baby experiences less stress by going into water.Undergoing delivery is stressful enough for the baby.Reducing that shock a little bit will go a long way.  And these waterbirths can be performed by most midwives San Diego. They have the know how in this type of delivery. And as shown it brings a lot of benefits for the mother and the baby as well.

What does a midwife do for pregnancy

September 12th, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

If a woman gets pregnant there would be a lot of important decisins that should be decided upon immediately. She needs to go choose a doctor that suits her needs and wants.  More than likely they need to choose a hospital.  And there a few other things. What pregnant women do not realize is that they have a choice aside from the usual way of delivery and this is called natural delivery. That is when they try not to use drugs for delivery. As a lot more people become health-conscious this method is gaining popularity.A profession that really helps in this area is called midwifery.

What is the definiton of midwifery?  It is the practice of assisting women to give birth naturally. There are other defintions. But this defintion is the simplest one.  As a San Diego midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally. This can give a lot of benefits.  Mainly of course no drug use. And without using drugs the delivery goes faster.Because drugs administered to the mother can actually slow down the delivery itself.

These days, women are not only choosing to deliver their babies the natural way but they also choose to deliver their babies at their own homes.  They are choosing the home to deliver their baby. This different from what people are usually doing. But a lot of benefits await the mothers and the babies.  As a homebirth midwife San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand. The privacy of the place is one benefit a mother can get from this method.Intrusive medical procedures are less needed also because the way of giving birth is the natural way.

Now of course there are some objections. Some are doubtful about the safety of ths method. But this factor should not be a big deal if the pregnancy is a low risk one.  Now of course it isn’t recommended if the pregnancy is considered high risk.  In my midwife San Diego practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk.So that if anything happens it can be immediately attended to by a doctor.

The way midviwes are thought of

September 5th, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

Midwifery is a health care profession that helps expectant mothers.  They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. They also provide postpartum care as well.  In general, midwives are not usually nurses although they can be. But they have a governing body so they are being regulated. But what are the misconceptions about them?

In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths.  In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.People have this wrong belief that having a baby at home is not safe. But for low-risk pregnancy undergoing home birthing is very safe. Also, midwives have some necessary medical equipments at hand in case something serious happens. Most complications are avoided because of the method that they deliver babies.

This is the part where the benefits come in.  As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This is the kind of delivery where medicine is not needed or rather, no medicine is administered to help in labor.  No medicine is used to help the pain. But by not using medicines to help the mother during the delivery the birthing can finish at a faster time.Because most mothers do not know the fact that taking medicines that help ease birthing pains actually slows down the delivery.  So by avoiding medication they don’t slow down the delivery.

Another good thing would be when women deliver using water birth method because this has a lot of benefits for the baby and the mother. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water soothes the muscles of the pregnant mother resulting to an easier delivery of the baby. Plus the baby is birthed in water reducing the shock and stress for the child.

As you can see there are some things that people wrongly think of about midwives and their chosen profession.  But hopefully you can see that for low risk pregnancies it is safe.  Plus midwives are regulated by a governing body. That is why midwives are required to undero extensive schooling on midwifery. They know some medical procedures that may be needed in their said profession. That is why mothers should not be worried about their safety since all necessary medical equipments are with the midwife. It can be a good choice for pregnant mothers who have low-risk pregnancies.

Midwifery and the wrong things people think about it

Midwifery is a health care profession that helps expectant mothers.  They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. Postpartum care is also provided by them as well.  In general, midwives are not usually nurses although they can be. But they have a governing body so they are being regulated. But what are the wrong things that people think of midwives and midwifery in general?

In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths.  In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.  People usually think delivering a baby at home is unsafe. But for low risk pregnancy they are safe. Also, midwives have some necessary medical equipments at hand in case something serious happens. Most complications are avoided because of the method that they deliver babies.

That is where the benefits come in.  As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery.  This is where no medicine is involved to help in labor.  No medicine is used to help the pain.  But by not using medication this actually helps the delivery happen faster.Because most mothers do not know the fact that taking medicines that help ease birthing pains actually slows down the delivery. So by not administering medicine to the mother the delivery would be faster.

Plus as some women perform waterbirth deliveries this adds another benefit. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery.  The water actually soothes the muscles and allows easer delivery. Plus the baby is birthed in water reducing the shock and stress for the child.

As you can see there are misunderstanding with midwives. But I’m hoping that you will understand that this method is safe for low-risk pregnancies. Also, they have a regulating body. And that is the reason why midwives also need to undergo extensive schooling about their chosen profession. They have knowledge of medical procedures that is required in taking care of a pregnant woman. That is why mothers should not be worried about their safety since all necessary medical equipments are with the midwife. This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.

Safeness of having a baby at your own house

August 24th, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

How they deliver their babies is one of the choices that women can make during their pregnancy. What I’m trying to say when I said how they deliver is where do they want to give birth-in the hospital or at their homes. Most women think that homebirth is not a safe method to give birth that is why they do not realize that they have a choice on how to deliver their babies. But there are of course critics who are wary of this method.  But with careful research they can see there is a lot of evidence to show that it is.

The safety of a homebirth is definitely questioned.  From my observations from my practice as a San Diego midwife I have found it to be absolutely safe. From the 300 homebirths I have assisted in the dangers are just the same as if you were to deliver in a hospital.Having a baby in the hospital or at home doesn’t make any difference in minimizing those risks. On the ohter hand, the risks also would not increase because of this.

So what are some of the dangers? One reason is that complications might happen while giving birth and this worries people. They think that people who assist in homebirths are not nurses.  Well as a homebirth midwife in San Diego we do know medical procedures. All the necessary equipments for the common complications of a chilbirth are always with us.A doctor is obviously needed whenever any serious complications arise from gving birth at home. But that is not far from what happens in a hospital.

Women who have low risk pregnancies are the only women recommended for homebirths. If it is known that a woman has possible complications while giving birth then the midwife would not recommend this method if she is good.  This is standard procedure for all San Diego licensed midwife. The reason as to why is because midwives have a limited medical practice and they cannot do all the things that a doctor can do.That is why they do not do homebirth if the pregnancy is high risk and they make sure that it would be delivered in the hospital.

For those who do not like this method it will be very hard to convince them to do so.  But for those women who see this as an alternative they should understand it is safe.

Other options to delivery

August 10th, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

It is pretty much agreed that the usual way to have a baby is when you deliver in a hospital.Or to be more precise, a lot of people think that when you have a baby that you have to use medicine. In this piece we are going to try to shatter some of those assumptions.  We are going to offer alternatives that might be better.

Of course these observations are going to be coming from the viewpoint of my experience running a San Diego midwife service. If you aren’t knowledgeable about midwives, they are women who are there to assist in the delivery process for women.A lot of the times without the use of medicine in a homebirth.

So why are there a few women going with this alternative method? For the many women that go with this method and understand it, it is because of several reasons.

First of all, when you don’t use medicine in the labor, it actually makes the process of labor and delivery faster.  Most women don’t realize that the use of medicine actually slows down the labor.  Women use it to ease the pain but it actually prolongs the pain.  There are many certified midwives in San Diego who can show you proof of that.

Second, when you do use a natural method such as a waterbirth, it actually helps the muscles and the body because it soothes and relaxes during the delivery. This produces a delivery with less pain and makes having the delivery occur much faster.  I have seen it helping many women have a waterbirth in San Diego.

Those are just the beginning of many reasons that women have chosen a homebirth rather than the usual method of delivery. So even without the use of medicine and although there are no doctors, this method has been proven safe. When the delivery is in the home, it helps foster a more private and personal environment.Rather than when you are in a hospital where there will be a lot of people who poke and prod during the labor part.So with those reasons in mind, many women are going with a homebirth. It is a dignified and safe way and a process that is natural.
