Chicago IL Bankruptcy Attorneys Expect Bankruptcy Numbers to Grow

June 29th, 2009 by Rick in Uncategorized

Since the beginning of the economic recession around December of 2007, Chicago bankruptcy attorneys have seen many of the city’s residents rendered defenseless so much so that many are forced to seek personal bankruptcy protection just to stay afloat in the sea of damaging economic waters. Chicago bankruptcy attorneys are proving to be quite the match as they are feverishly processing personal bankruptcy claims.

Because individuals in financially distraught and draining situations can often make impulsive, spur of the moment decisions, bankruptcy lawyers from Chicago must take their time to thoroughly inform their customers of all of their options and the potential ramifications associated with those alternatives.

For the same reason, the government requires filers to complete a credit counseling course prior to submitting their bankruptcy paperwork. Once an individual has successfully completed the counseling course, he or she will receive a certification of completion. Along with the certificate of completion, the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention Consumer Protection Act mandates that prospective bankruptcy filers are required to submit more documentation or evidence in order to support whatever claim they are making. For example, if one has suffered due to a death then a death certificate or obituary can be offered as proof. If a loss of income is the reason for seeking bankruptcy then documentation from your former employer, unemployment check stubs, or W2 forms will help to substantiate your claims.

Apparently the increased cost of court fees associated with processing bankruptcy cases has not had much of an influence on potential bankruptcy filers. This increase has not deterred the masses as evident in the many bankruptcy cases that were filled last year when over one million Americans sought federal bankruptcy protection. Furthermore, economic experts are in agreement with the sound prediction that that number will do nothing but continue to grow and expand as the year unfolds.
