Applying for the Best Govt Grants

With over $400 billion in grants available from 1000 different programs from the U.S. Government, it may be challenging to find a program that you or your company may qualify for while applying for govt grants.

With a bit of diligence and some considerate planning, this article will acquaint you with the necessary resources in order to research and apply for a good grant program. 

The easiest method to applying for grants is to log on to grants.gov. This is by far the largest source for govt grants. With this site, you’ll have four different options when it comes to searching for information.

First and foremost is the option of using a basic search. The basic search goes by keywords, so typing in word specific grants will take you where you want to go. For example, by typing a Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance number (CFDA) you would be linked to the related number specific grant.Make sure that you list down the numbers once you’ve accessed the site, these can serve as your reference if ever you should need to access the site for grant again.

The next search option is by category.If you search by category there are 21 different groups that are available including but not limited to employment, arts, environment, etc. This could reduce the time you take for searching.You could also opt to search by agency.  There will be over 40 agencies to choose from that offer grants you can apply for.

Lastly, this site offers and advanced search.  With this search, you are able to use keywords a long with specific keywords that include date posted, agency, category, eligibility and others. You can also sign up via email, to receive emails when specific grants in a particular opportunity category are posted.

After all of your information is gathered, you must download a grant application and apply for the grant.Prepare or memorize your funding opportunity and/or the CFDA number as well because these are needed for application.  Review your application before submitting as all of your information needs to be submitted.

You also have to register with grants.gov and create your very own account. Registration would allow you to send the application forms and be approved by an organization.You could track the status of your application as well.

Once you are finished with your application, log into your grants.gov with your account and send your form once you are finished. Make sure to keep yourself updated with the status of the application using your CFDA number, Funding opportunity number, Competition ID, and your grants.gov tracking number.
